A rich football career for Tunisian Adel Chadli

Chadli was born in September 1976 in the Larica Mare region of France, and began his professional football career with the French team Saint-Etienne in 1995, after proving his competence in the club’s youth team.

Chadli spent two years with Saint-Etienne, before joining the French team Sochaux on a free transfer, where he played until 2004, after which he moved to the Istres team.

The Tunisian player did not stay long with Istres, as he moved in 2005 to the German team Nuremberg, then to the Swiss team Sion the following year. In 2007, Chadli settled in the Arab region, where he played for the Emirati team Al-Shaab, but he quickly returned to Istres, where he played for two years.

In his second experience in Arab stadiums, Chadli played for the Tunisian Etoile du Sahel team between 2010 and 2012, then ended his football career with the Moroccan Raja Casablanca team in 2013.

During his career on the field, Adel Chadli won the only African Cup of Nations title with the Tunisian national team in 2004, and also won the French Cup with Sochaux, and the Moroccan League with Raja.

After his retirement, Adel Chadli worked for a long period in business in an unsuccessful experience, until he decided to return to football again, where he worked as an assistant to Sunyol in February 2021.

Adel El Shazly appeared in previous statements to a French channel broadcast on the famous YouTube platform, where he talked about his social ordeal and financial suffering for a whole year, and indicated his inability for a period of time to secure the daily expenses of his family, which forced him to work in a “factory” and resort to borrowing many times.

“I gave everything for my country, Tunisia,” Chadli said, looking regretful. “I was looking forward to playing every international match during the tenure of French coach Roger Lemerre, not just with the national team, but with all the clubs I played for. My professional career was very successful, but unfortunately after retiring I made several unsuccessful choices, which contributed to the deterioration of my financial situation.”

Adel Al-Shazly added: “I went through very difficult months, because of my poor choice of people around me and because of several wrong decisions I made after retirement, and I did not find anyone to stand with me and support me in my ordeal during a whole year. It was a difficult year, in which I had to work away from sports in Lab”.

The 2004 African champion with the Carthage Eagles concluded: “There is only one person who helped me and stood by my side, and that is Willy Sagnol, who gave me the opportunity to work with him within the technical staff of the Georgian national team, even though my relationship with him was not strong, as I played with him for one season in 2006 in Saint-Etienne.”
