Syrian League.. VAR makes its presence felt in the new season


The Syrian League is about to witness an important development, revealed by the member of the local Arab Football Association and the official of the referees committee, Muhammad Kousa, who confirmed the arrival of the video assistant referee (VAR) technology equipment to Syria in the first half of next September.

Kousa spoke about the arrival of two fully equipped vehicles that will be ready to cover a group that will be selected from the matches. CompetitionHe said: “The issue of introducing video technology is proceeding with confident steps, but the issue is not as easy as some people imagine.”

He added: “We, in the main referees committee, anticipated the arrival of the equipment by contacting the International Federation of Football, in order for our referees to undergo a course in Lebanon to use the technologies available to the Lebanese Football Association.”

“We are currently waiting for FIFA’s approval of our request, which is supposed to come soon. Thus, we have prepared our referees by having them undergo the first course in Lebanon, and then the second course in Syria when the equipment arrives to us. After that, our referees will be eligible to obtain the license,” Kousa explained.VAR“In preparation for its adoption in the new season.”

The draw for the Syrian Premier League for the new season will be held tomorrow, Monday, under the supervision of the head of the competitions committee, Muhyiddin Dawla, who spoke about the tournament. He said: “The league tournament will start on November 18th, and will conclude on May 31st next year. As for the cup competition, it will be a home and away system.”

Regarding the delay in the start of the league and the alternatives that the Football Association will provide to the clubs, Dawla said: “To ensure that the teams are well prepared for the upcoming season, a new tournament will be created and will be called the Football Association Shield, in which the league teams will participate. The teams will be divided into two groups according to their ranking during the past season, with the participation of the Al-Shorta and Al-Sha’la clubs, which qualified from the First Division League.”

It is worth noting that the Syrian Premier League Championship in the new season will be held with the participation of 12 teams: Al-Wahda, Al-Ittihad, Ahli Aleppo, Al-Karamah, Al-Jaish, Al-Shorta, Al-Fotuwa, Al-Wathba, Al-Tali’aa, Al-Sha’la, Hattin, Jableh, and Tishreen. It is worth noting that Al-Fotuwa team maintained its title as Premier League champion for the second year in a row, and was also crowned with the Cup Championship title by defeating Al-Wahda team in the final match on penalties.
