Southgate aims to restore English football’s reputation through the Euros

England manager Gareth Southgate said he was proud of his players’ performance after the Three Lions beat Switzerland to reach the semi-finals of Euro 2024 Germany on Saturday evening, July 6, on penalties.

Southgate explained in the press conference after the match that his players showed a solid character and professionalism against Switzerland, as the original and extra time ended in a 1-1 draw before the penalty shootout smiled in favor of the English team with a score of 5-3 in the end.

“I think we managed the game well,” said the coach. “We played a great game without the ball and defended bravely. The players were focused. It’s not just about the performance, but sometimes the way you win, like Spain did against Germany. Overall, I’m proud of the players.”

He added in his speech: “I love the players, and I am happy to coach them during this period. I am striving to try to develop and improve English football. I aim to restore our reputation and position on the world map. We are in the semi-finals and we will see where we will reach.”

The young coach considered the match against Switzerland to be the best for the English national team in the 2024 Germany finals so far, and that the players’ pace is rising match after match, and he will try in every way to go far, as England has not won any title since 1966.
