Saudi Federation reaches final agreement with former France coach


Press reports revealed, on Wednesday, that the Saudi Al-Ittihad Club has reached a final agreement with the former coach of the French national team and Paris Saint-Germain Club, Laurent Blanc, to take over the responsibility of training the team starting next season.

The federation was close to appointing Italian coach Stefano Pioli, the former coach of Milan, to replace Argentine Marcelo Gallardo, who left his position at the end of last season, but negotiations stopped at the last minute.

Agreement between the Union and Blanc for two years

According to reliable journalist Fabrizio Romano, Al-Ittihad Club has reached a final agreement with French coach Laurent Blanc, to supervise the team’s training for two years until the summer of 2026.

Romano also confirmed that the agreement between the two parties will include an extension clause for an additional year until June 2027.

And seeks Saudi Club To resolve the coach’s file quickly, before the start of the preparatory period for the next season, as the club’s management wants to compensate for the failures of last season, after the team left without any championship, and occupied fifth place in the standings. Blanc is looking forward to a new coaching experience, after his last experience with Olympique Lyonnais, which ended last September with his dismissal, after the team’s poor start in the French League.

Laurent Blanc’s strong coaching career

The 58-year-old French coach is one of the most prominent names in French football, with a great record that places him among the best French coaches.

Blanc began his coaching career in 2007, six years after retiring from football, with the French club Bordeaux, and led it in 159 matches over 3 years.

Blanc achieved many accomplishments with Bordeaux in his first experience, as he led them to win the French League title in the 2008-09 season for the first time since the 1998-99 season, in addition to winning the French League Cup once and the French Super Cup twice.

Laurent then went on to coach the national team. French He replaced Raymond Domenech in July 2010, to lead him for two years, during which the French national team played the Euro 2012 qualifiers and the tournament finals, until it was eliminated in the quarter-finals by the Spanish national team with two clean goals.

Blanc then coached the club Paris Saint-Germain Between January 2013 and June 2016, he led the team to 11 titles (3 French League titles, 3 French Cup titles, 3 French League titles, 2 French Cup titles).

Laurent then stayed away from coaching for a long time, before returning with a new experience in the Middle East, where he coached the Qatari club Al Rayyan in 2020 until February 2022, without leaving a real mark with the prestigious team.
