Belarusian Aryna Sabalenka qualifies for the US Open final for tennis After defeating American Madison Keys to set up a match with fellow citizen Coco Gauff.
Sabalenka, currently ranked second in the world and next week will rise to the top of the rankings for the first time in her career, was able to defeat Keys by a score of 0-6, 7-6 (7-1), 7-6 (7-5) in two hours and 32 minutes, to reach the US Open final. For the first time in her career.
“She played amazing, it was another level from her,” Sabalenka said. “Somehow, I don’t know how she turned that match around. To reach a US Open final for the first time really means a lot.”
The match witnessed moments of anger from Sabalenka, which she exchanged with her coaching team, before she showed her smile late in the decisive tie-breaking half.
In the final, Sabalenka will face 19-year-old Coco Gauff, ranked sixth in the world, who is competing in the US Open final for the first time after she ousted Czech Karolina Mitova in the semi-finals 6-4, 7-5 in two hours and three minutes.
Sabalenka is seeking to win the second Grand Slam title in her career after winning the Australian Open this year, while Gauff is trying to win the first major championship title in her career, noting that this is the second time she has reached a Grand Slam final after she lost the Roland Garros final in 2022 to Poland’s Iga Szwiatek.
With her victory in the semi-finals, Gauff achieved her 11th victory in a row, which is considered the best record in her career.
Sabalenka and Gauff previously faced each other in five matches, of which the American player won three of them in her favor compared to two for the Belarusian. Sabalenka hopes to win the 14th title in her career, while Gauff hopes to win the sixth title.
