John Manu seeks to lead Al-Ahly Benghazi to victory over his former club

Sudanese player John Manu, striker for the Libyan club Al-Ahly Benghazi, will play an emotional match against his former team, Al-Hilal of Sudan, next Saturday, in the first leg of the first preliminary round of the African Champions League in its new 2024-25 edition.

This is the first match for Manu against Al-Hilal of Sudan, after he moved to Al-Ahly Benghazi at the beginning of the current season for about $400,000, after the end of his loan period to Al-Sadaka of Libya in one of the strongest deals in the Libyan Premier League 2024-25.

John Manu was the first Sudanese player to join the Libyan league last January as a local player through the Libyan Al-Sadaka Club, coming from the Sudanese giant Al-Hilal, with a 6-month contract on loan, after the Football Association decided to consider Sudanese players as local players in the league, according to the new laws.

The 23-year-old Manu still has a lot of love and appreciation for Al Hilal, however, he is looking forward to his first official match against Al Ahli Benghazi in an all-Arab clash, to leave his mark with the Libyan team in order to defeat his former team, Al Hilal of Sudan.

The first leg of the preliminary round of the African Champions League will be held next Saturday at Benina Stadium in Benghazi with the attendance of the public, while the second leg will be held at Azam Stadium in Tanzania on August 24. If they qualify for the second preliminary round of the competition, they will play against the winner of the match between San Pedro of Ivory Coast and Rangers of Sierra Leone.

Promising striker John Manu will not be the only reinforcement in Al-Ahly Benghazi’s African roster, as the club, under the leadership of Serbian Dejan Arsov, the team’s new technical director, has succeeded in contracting Nigerian striker and winger Gabriel Orok, coming from the Egyptian club Ghazl El-Mahalla, and international midfielder Abdel Moneim Okasha, coming from Abu Salim club, in a free transfer deal.

Al-Ahly Benghazi of Libya hopes, during its participation in the upcoming 2024-25 African Champions League, to achieve the ambitions of its great fans, by going far in the competition’s competitions in the hope of competing for the title despite the difficulty of the task.
