Iraqi Olympic team misses professional in Toulouse friendlies

The administrative director of the Iraqi Olympic team, Abdul Jabbar Hashim, announced the absence of one of his team’s professional players from the team’s preparatory camp for the Paris 2024 Olympics.

The Iraqi team is preparing to play in the second group. At the Paris Olympics 2024, along with the national teams of Argentina, Morocco and Ukraine.

Hashem said towin win“The Iraqi Olympic team will leave for France on the 10th of July, in preparation for participating in the Paris 2024 Olympics. By this date, all the players of the Iraqi team will be ready to travel to France, after the end of all football competitions in Iraq, including the league and cup championships.”

He added: “The Iraqi Olympic team will head directly to the French city of Toulouse to gather and play two friendly matches there. The first will be against the French team Pau on July 13, while we will face the Egyptian Olympic team on the 17th of the same month. The two matches have been secured in order to check the final preparations of the Iraqi team before officially entering the Olympics.”

He explained: “The professionals will join the Iraqi delegation players departing from Baghdad International Airport, and the professional player in the ranks of the Dutch Heerenveen, Hussein Ali, will be left behind from the delegation, but he will join it on the 18th of this month to be ready to participate directly in the Paris Olympics.”

The Iraqi Olympic team aims to go far in the Olympics

Hashem added: “The Iraqi Olympic team will enter the Paris tournament carrying the dreams of its players and technical staff, to reach the furthest point possible, and repeat the achievement of the 2004 Athens Olympics when Iraq reached the semi-finals of the competition, as coach Radhi Shenaishil seeks for his team to be a strong and difficult opponent for all the teams in its group, which includes football schools from South America, Europe and Africa.”

This is the sixth participation of the Iraqi national team in the football competitions at the Olympics, as its last participation was in the Rio de Janeiro 2026 Olympics, where it tied with the Brazilian national team without goals, despite the technical differences between the two teams and the presence of the “Samba” stars, led by Neymar da Silva.

Iraq is scheduled to start its journey in the Paris Olympics by facing Ukraine on July 24, then facing Argentina on the 27th of the same month, and then facing Morocco on the 30th of the same month.
