Guardiola is approaching a legendary number in the English Premier League

Spanish Pep Guardiola (53 years old), coach of Manchester City, is about to achieve a historic record if he succeeds in winning the English Premier League competition for the current season (2023-2024), as we have reached the final round of the season.

Manchester City needs to win in the final round next Sunday, May 19, at the Etihad Stadium, over its guest, West Ham United, by any score, in order to officially win the English Premier League title, without bothering to look at the result of the Arsenal and Everton match.

The heavenly team occupies the top spot in the list of (Premier League) with 88 points, followed directly by Arsenal with 86 points.

If Manchester City wins the English Premier League this season, it will have retained its title for the fourth consecutive season, but there is a special number that will accompany coach Guardiola and place it in a historical list with the great coaches of the competition.

Guardiola is on a historic record

If Manchester City wins the title; Guardiola will become the second greatest coach in the history of the English Premier League of all time, as he will jump to second place on the list of coaches who have won the title 6 times, behind the Scottish Alex Ferguson, the legend of Manchester United.

Ferguson is the greatest coach in the history of the English Premier League, winning the title 13 times with the Red Devils.

If Guardiola wins the title this season, he will share second place on the list of great English Premier League coaches with two legends.

The first is the English coach Bob Paisley, who won 6 league titles with Liverpool in the 1970s and 1980s, and the second is the Scottish coach George Ramsay, who also won 6 titles in the competition, all of them with the Aston Villa team between 1894 and 1910.

Bob Paisley in particular has a legendary record with Liverpool. He has won 20 titles in just 9 years, an average of two championships per season, and his most notable achievements are winning the Champions League 3 times and the English Premier League 6 times, numbers that are difficult to repeat again.

To demonstrate the strength of Paisley’s numbers, Guardiola, during his 8 years with Manchester City, has achieved – so far – only 16 titles.

Guardiola hopes for a domestic double

Unlike the English Premier League, Guardiola is aiming to win the FA Cup this season when he plays in the derby against Manchester United in the final match on May 25 at Wembley Stadium, where he aims to achieve the local double.

During 8 years, the FA Cup competition eluded Guardiola, as he won the title only twice, in 2019 and 2023.
