Djokovic qualifies with difficulty, easy victory for Swiatek

Serbian Novak Djokovic, ranked second in the world and runner-up in the last edition, qualified for the third round of the British Wimbledon Championship, the third of the four Grand Slam tournaments in Tennis worldafter defeating youngster Jacob Fearnley.

The 37-year-old Djokovic found himself forced to play a match that extended to three hours in order to overcome his 22-year-old British opponent, with a score of 6-3, 6-4, 5-7, 7-5.

Although the veteran tennis star seemed on his way to an easy win in the first and second sets, he found it very difficult in the third set after losing his serve twice, and his suffering continued in the fourth set against a competitor ranked 277th in the world, before Djokovic succeeded in deciding the match in his favor.

“I’ve never seen Fearnley play, so there’s always an element of surprise,” Djokovic said after the match. “He had nothing to lose and served well. I was a bit lucky in the fourth set. I could have won it in three sets and there was a possibility of going to a fifth set.”

The Serbian star is expected to face Australian Alexei Popyrin, who defeated Argentine Thomas Etcheverry, in an upcoming match, seeking his eighth Wimbledon title and equaling Swiss Roger Federer’s record, and enhancing his record in terms of major titles (24).

It is worth noting that Djokovic is participating in his first tournament since suffering a cartilage injury during the Roland Garros tournament last month, which forced him to undergo surgery and give up the world rankings to Italian Jannik Sinner.
