Did Mbappe belittle his French teammates for Pogba or tell the truth?

France will be looking to reach their fourth European Championship final when they face Spain in the semi-finals of the tournament in Germany.

This is the sixth meeting between Spain and France in a major tournament, with France winning three matches (2-0 in the Euro 1984 final, 2-1 in the Euro 2000 quarter-final, 3-1 in the 2006 World Cup round of 16), while Spain won in the Euro 2012 quarter-final, and the other match ended in a 1-1 draw in the group stage of Euro 1996.

Questions for France go towards the attack, as they advanced to this round with a goal from Mbappe from a penalty kick and all the other goals came by mistake from the opponents.

France are the only team since 1980 to have had more than 50 shots, not including penalties, in a European Championship without scoring a goal.

Lack of creativity in France without Pogba

How can a team with the best striker in the world have such a negative record?! Kylian Mbappe himself came out last week with ambiguous statements in which he said: “A striker must adapt to all situations, his teammates and their characteristics.”

“We had different players. For example, in midfield, we had Paul Pogba; with him, all you have to do is run and you know the ball will come to you,” he continued.

Pogba is currently serving a four-year doping ban, and regardless of his club form, his presence with Les Bleus in previous periods was a real game-changer.

Mbappe is a fast player who loves the ball in spaces, and Pogba is the best at distributing long and through balls in spaces, as Mbappe says. So Mbappe needs this.

France clearly suffers from key passes, with only 16 key passes in 5 matches at Euro 2024, in other words, France’s key passes per match are only 3.2 key passes!

In terms of creating chances from open play, the matter is even more confirmed. Jules Kounde (11) and N’Golo Kante (10) created the most chances for their teammates; the first is a centre-back who plays as a right-back, and the other is a midfielder who is more famous for his defensive quality.

Antoine Griezmann only created 6 chances from open play, even when deployed in midfield he didn’t perform as well as Pogba.
