Today, Thursday, July 11, the draw for the African Confederation Cup was held at the headquarters of the African Union (CAF) in the Egyptian capital, Cairo. The draw for the first preliminary round resulted in balanced matches for the Arab clubs.

Five Arab teams were exempted from participating in the first preliminary round matches, namely the Egyptian club Zamalek, the champion of the previous edition, its compatriot Al-Masry of Port Said, Nahdat Berkane of Morocco, USM Alger of Algeria, and CS Sfaxien of Tunisia, and they will enter the competition in the second preliminary round.

The first leg matches of the first preliminary round will be held between August 16 and 18, and the second leg matches between August 23 and 25, while the second leg matches of the preliminary round will be held between September 13 and 15, and the second leg matches between September 20 and 22.

Confederation Cup draw results in expected Arab clash

The draw for the second preliminary round of the African Confederation Cup revealed an expected Arab clash between the Algerian club, Ittihad El-Djazair, and the Tunisian stadium, if the latter wins over the Chadian club, Jamous FC Juba, in the first preliminary round.

The title holder, Zamalek, will face the winner of the match between Kenyan Police and Ethiopian Al-Bun in the second preliminary round, while the runner-up of the last edition, the Moroccan Renaissance Berkane Club, will play against the qualifier between Nigeria’s El Kanemi Warriors and Benin’s FC Dadji.

Al-Masry SC of Port Said will clash with the winner of the match against Kitara FC of Uganda and the first representative of Libya, as it is expected that an Arab derby will be held in the second preliminary round as well, while the Tunisian club, Sfaxien, will face the winner of the match between Horseed of Somalia and Rukenzo of Burundi.

It is worth noting that the draw for the African Confederation Cup to determine the matches of the first and second preliminary rounds and the qualifiers for the group stage was attended by figures and officials from the Confederation of African Football (CAF).
