CAF opens an investigation into the events of the Confederation Cup final

The Confederation of African Football (CAF) announced its deep disappointment and strong denunciation of what it described as “security violations and unacceptable crowd behavior” that occurred during and after the second leg of the African Confederation Cup final, between Egyptian Zamalek and Morocco’s RS Berkane, which was held at the CAF Confederation Stadium. CAF issues an official statement regarding the events of Zamalek’s coronation ceremony with the Confederation title

CAF published an official statement in which it said: “The Federation stresses that the safety of all participants in its matches, including players, fans and officials, is its top priority, and that any violent or threatening behavior will not be tolerated at all.”

The Confederation of African Football decided to refer the case to the relevant authorities and competent committees in CAF to investigate it and take the necessary disciplinary measures regarding what happened and the behavior of the Egyptian club Zamalek, its players, officials, and any other party during and after the match.

Despite losing in the first leg 1-2, Zamalek benefited from the advantage of goals scored away from home, to win the African Cup for the second time in its history, after winning it for the first time in 2019, specifically against RS Berkane as well.

With this coronation, the White Knight achieved the African Confederation Championship for the second time in its history, at the expense of Morocco’s RS Berkane in the 2019 and 2024 editions.
