Brazil coach justifies Copa America failure, Endrick sends message

Brazil coach justified Dorival JuniorThe reason for the failure in the Copa America 2024 is that his team leaves the tournament in a state of dissatisfaction, despite not losing any match until its elimination in the quarter-finals.

Brazil were eliminated from the tournament after winning just one match against Paraguay in the group stage, drawing 0-0 with Costa Rica, drawing 1-1 with Colombia, and drawing 0-0 with Uruguay before losing to the latter on penalties in the quarter-finals.

The Brazilian coach explained in a press conference following the match, which was held at Allegiant Stadium in Las Vegas, Nevada, that this was the first official tournament the team had played under his leadership, and that the result was far from what they had hoped for.

Dorival pointed to the absence of Vinicius Junior due to the accumulation of cards, and the injury of Rodrygo in one of the legs after a violent intervention by Naitan Nandez, who was sent off, stressing that this was among the most prominent reasons for the defeat.

“We wanted to make the most of every player’s ability. We didn’t have a striker,” said the Brazil coach, noting the team’s lack of a centre-forward.

For his part, Endrick, the rising jewel of the Brazilian national football team, expressed his sadness after the team was eliminated from the quarter-finals of the Copa America, and called on the fans to support the team for the 2026 World Cup.

“I’m sad. Not just us, but all Brazilians, because it’s hard to go out, especially on penalties,” said the striker, who will join Real Madrid next summer and turns 18 in July.

Like the Brazil coach, Endrick pledged that he and his teammates will continue to work on improving their level before the 2026 World Cup qualifiers, which will resume next September.

“I hope we can have the support of all Brazilians. I know it’s very difficult to talk about it now, but everyone’s support will be essential,” he concluded.
