American runner Noah Lyles won the gold medal in the 100-meter race in the athletics competitions at the Paris 2024 Olympic Games.
Lyles, the world champion who brought the Olympic title back to the United States for the first time since 2004, covered the distance in 9.79 seconds, beating Jamaican Keeshan Thompson, who took silver (9.79), and another American, Fred Kerley, who took bronze (9.81 seconds).
Ukrainian Mahuchykh wins high jump gold at Paris 2024 Olympics
In another context, Ukrainian Yaroslava Mahuchykh won the gold medal in the high jump in athletics at the Paris 2024 Olympics, adding it to the world title she won last year and the world record she set last month.
The 22-year-old cleared 2.02m to beat Australia’s Nicola Oleslagers, who took silver, by a margin of error.
The podium was special, as Australia’s Eleanor Patterson and Ukraine’s Iryna Gerachenko shared the bronze after each of them recorded 1.98m with the same number of attempts.
Mahuchik gave her country the second gold medal at the Paris 2024 Olympics, after the first she won on Saturday in the women’s team fencing competition.
Bahraini and Moroccan achievement
Also in athletics, at the 2024 Paris Olympics, but in the 3,000-meter hurdles race, Bahraini Winfred Yaffe reached the final round of the race by topping the second group qualifiers on Sunday at the Stade de France in Saint-Denis, on the outskirts of the capital.

Yafi was the world champion in the race in Budapest last year, covering the distance in 9:15.11 minutes, ahead of Ethiopian Simbu Alemayu (9:15.42) and American Valerie Konstine (9:16.33).
The 24-year-old Yafi, who finished eighth at the World Championships in London 2017, fourth in Doha 2019 and Eugene 2022, hopes to achieve a better result than the Tokyo version three years ago when she finished tenth.
In contrast, Tunisian Marwa Bouziani failed to book her ticket to the final round scheduled for Tuesday, as she came in sixth in the first group with a time of 9:10.91 minutes.
Bouziani achieved her personal best time for the distance, which was better than Yafi’s; however, she did not qualify as only the first five qualified in each of the three groups.
Moroccan Noura Elnadi behind McLaughlin
Moroccan Noura El Nadi reached the semi-finals of the 400m hurdles race, coming in second in the fifth series with a time of 55.26 seconds, behind the world record holder and Olympic champion in Tokyo three years ago, American Sydney McLaughlin-Levron (53.60 seconds).
This is the first participation of Noura Elnadi, 25, in the Olympic Games, and her best result remains the Arab Championship in 2021, the gold medal at the 2022 Islamic Solidarity Games, and the 2023 Francophone Games.
Morocco has two medals in the 400m hurdles race at the Olympic Games, thanks to the efforts of Nawal El Moutawakel in Los Angeles in 1984, when she became the first Arab and African runner to win gold, and then Nezha Bidouane, who won the bronze in Sydney 2000.
Noura Al-Nadi, who came in 18th place in the last World Championship in Budapest last year, is preparing to compete in the semi-finals the day after tomorrow, Tuesday.

Katzberg, 22, claimed his Olympic title on his first attempt when he cleared 84.12m, beating Hungary’s Pence Halasz, who took silver on his third attempt (79.97m), and Ukraine’s Mykhailo Kokhan, who took bronze (79.39m on his second attempt).
Poland’s Wojciech Nowitzki, the Olympic title holder in Tokyo, came in seventh (77.42 m), Norway’s Eivind Henriksen came in fourth (79.18 m), and another Pole, Pawel Fajdek, who won the bronze three years ago, came in fifth (78.80 m).
With his record on Sunday, Katzberg, who became Canada’s first Olympic champion in the hammer throw, achieved the best result in the Olympic competition since 1988 and a triple for the Soviet Union led by Sergei Litvinov (84.80m).
