The Algerian butterfly had taken fifth place in the individual all-around final of artistic gymnastics, last Saturday, August 1, to make up for the loss in the parallel bars final and win the gold.
Algerian gymnast Nemour shone remarkably, and presented a wonderful artistic performance that was admired by the audience, to obtain the best rating in the final, 15.700 points, and snatch first place from the rest of the competitors.
Algerian Nemours happy with Olympic gold
Algerian Nemour, who celebrated with the Algerian flag in the skies of Paris, said in statements to the media after her historic coronation with gold at the 2024 Summer Olympics: “Things were crazy in the full sense of the word.. I cannot believe what is happening,” adding: “I am very happy to be crowned with this gold medal and dedicate it to the Algerian people.”
The teenager, who is attached to her father’s country, continued, highlighting her pride in representing Algeria in this major global sporting event, despite being born and raised in France: “I am very proud of what I have achieved to make the Algerian people happy,” before adding: “Thank you to everyone and to everyone who supported me on social media platforms.”
“I am shocked. I have achieved my lifelong dream, it is unbelievable,” she added, referring to her long struggle to reach the podium at the Olympics. Three years ago, she underwent two surgeries on both knees, and was deemed unfit to compete by the French Gymnastics Federation, before choosing Algeria and winning gold with them at the Paris 2024 Olympics.
Algerian gymnast Nemour revealed the secret behind her gold medal win, despite the fact that her attempt in the final came right after her Chinese competitor’s big score (15,500 points), saying: “It’s true that it was complicated, but I maintained my focus and calm and did what I planned.”
