Al-Sharbaty and Abu Al-Rub raise the Jordanian flag at the Paris Olympics


The Jordanian Olympic Committee has decided to select Taekwondo players Saleh Al-Sharbaty and Rama Abu Al-Rub to raise the Jordanian flag at the opening ceremony of the 33rd edition of the Olympic GamesWhich will officially launch on July 26 in the French capital, Paris.

Saleh Al-Sharbaty qualified for the Paris Olympics after coming in fifth place in the world rankings for the under-80 kg weight class. He aspires to be the first Jordanian athlete to win two medals in the Olympic Games, having won the silver medal in the previous edition.

For her part, another Jordanian star, Abu Al-Rub, qualified for the Paris Olympics in the over 67 kg weight class through the Asian qualifiers that took place in the Chinese city of Tai’an last March.

Rama Abu Al-Rub previously qualified for the Youth Olympic Games, which were hosted by the Argentine capital, Buenos Aires, in 2018.

Jordan’s representatives in the Olympics

Jordan will be represented in the upcoming Olympic Games by 12 male and female players: Taekwondo Quartet: Juliana Al-Sadiq, Rama Abu Al-Rub, andSaleh Al-Sharbaty Zaid Mustafa, the boxing trio: Hussein, Ziad Ashish and Obada Al-Kasbah, the gymnastics team player Ahmed Abu Al-Saud, the table tennis team player Zaid Abu Yaman, the swimming team players Amr Al-War and Karen Al-Balbisi, and the marathon player Moaz Al-Khalidah.

This is Jordan’s 12th participation in the Olympic Games since its first appearance in the Moscow version in 1980, as the Al-Nashama have 3 Olympic medals to their credit, including the gold for taekwondo player, Ahmad Abu Ghosh, in the Rio de Janeiro Olympics in 2016, the silver for taekwondo player, Saleh Al-Sharbaty, in the Tokyo Olympics in 2021, and the bronze for karate player Abdul Rahman Al-Masatfa in the Tokyo Olympics as well.
