After causing Belgium’s elimination, Jan Vertonghen retires from international football

Anderlecht defender announcedBelgium national team Jan Vertonghen has retired from international football, four days after causing his country’s elimination from the round of 16 of the 2024 European Football Championship in Germany.

Jan Vertonghen is a defender. Anderlecht Aged 37, he holds the record for international appearances (157) with the Red Devils.

Vertonghen, who scored an own goal against his country’s goal in the round of 16 against France (0-1), wrote on his official account on the social media platform:Instagram“From start to finish, thanks for all the memories, I lived a dream.”

While the official account of the Belgian Football Association commented on the news of Vertonghen’s retirement and tweeted on the “X” platform: “From the training grounds to the big stadiums, you showed us what it is like to be a real Red Devil. We will miss you, Jan.”
